In June 2009, Charles released his first solo publication, a collection of photographs from Houston's Westheimer Street Festival. The book is called "West Fest: Portrait of a Street Festival", and contains over 400 pages of full-color photos spanning over 15 years of festivities. It is available from Blurb publishers, a California-based art press.
Since then, he has released several other published collections of his photos as well as participating in group exhibitions at prominent Houston art spaces such as Lawndale Art Center and the Houston Center for Photography, and with high-profile independent organizations such as Hardy & Nance Studios and The Insomnia Gallery.
In his early days of photography, he worked with Canon 35mm film equipment, but as the medium migrated to digital, he switched to Nikon's D-series of SLR cameras. He currently works with a D3300.
In recent years, he has experimented with metal prints, which have been well received.
